Letter of Recommendation Packet
Find out if you need letters of recommendation, as not all colleges require them. UC and CSU do not require letters of recommendation, though many other schools do. It is your responsibility to research the letter of recommendation requirements and submission process for each of the schools you are applying to, as requirements may vary.

Seniors- Sending a Final Transcript
If you are attending a 4-year college, you must send an official final high school transcript to the college/university you plan to attend in the fall. The final transcript will be complete and ready to send a couple weeks after graduation. All requested transcripts will be sent out by July 1st, 2024.
Seniors need to fill out the Google form link prior to graduation or they be required to come in person and fill out a form in the front office.
Each official transcript is $5. Payment can be made in cash at Leland’s main office between 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday. We will not process your request until we have received your payment. Payment is waived for students who are receiving free or reduced lunch.

Outside Credit Approval
If a student wants to take a summer course for acceleration and Leland credit, they must first complete the Outside Credit Approval Form. Leland will not transcribe outside courses or approve them for acceleration without the Outside Credit Approval Form. The form is located in the CRC for students to pick up when needed.
Once the form is signed and returned to the grade-level counselor, your counselor will email you and your student if your form is accepted or not approved. Please note that all students are expected to take all courses required for graduation at Leland High School.
The form is due on April 1st, 2025.
Transcripts
We only transcribe courses approved by the deadline. If the student has already met the math, science, or language requirements for graduation, we will not transcribe additional outside credits, though the course may be approved for acceleration. After the course is approved and you have completed the class, you must submit your official transcript directly from the outside institution to Leland's Registrar, Karen Johnson.
Summer course (math/science) outside transcript deadline is August 1st, 2024
Language course outside transcript deadline is May 31st, 2024
Acceleration For Math/Science
Summer courses may be used for acceleration in math or science. Summer acceleration is not recommended as the preparation provided in a summer course is not equivalent to that of a year-long class. Acceleration course approval is only valid for the summer of 2024. We DO NOT approve online or hybrid science courses. All science courses must be fully in-person, including lab work. San Jose Unified will only accept high school level courses listed on the University of California A-G Course List. San Jose Unified will only accept Community College Courses listed on assist.org and be BOTH UC and CSU transferable. College courses may be offered by an in-state UC/CSU or Private college for credit.
Language
All outside language courses must be taken outside of the school day (1st-6th periods) and will not count toward the minimum number of classes required for full-time enrollment, or exceed a total of 7 classes throughout the day. Outside language courses can be taken during the school year or summer. Additionally, these courses are only approved if the language course is not offered at Leland or because the student requested a French course but was unable to have the class added to their schedule (this would be verified by admin). We approve up to 20 credits, or level 2 of a LOTE. We do not permit acceleration for language courses. San Jose Unified will only accept high school level courses listed on the University of California A-G Course List. San Jose Unified will only accept Community College Courses listed on assist.org and be BOTH UC and CSU transferable.
